    Aschersonia minutispora Hywel-Jones & Mongkols. Mycol. Res. 113: 692 (2009)

    Teleomorph state: Hypocrella sp.

    Description:

Specimens were found on the underside of dicotyledonous leaves of forest plants. Hosts are Hemiptera (nymph of scale insect). Mongkolsamrit et al. (2009) described “Stromata pulvinate, oval or circular, consisting of dense interwoven hyphae, base constricted, spreading, forming a membranous hypothallus, up to 2.5 mm diam, 2mm high, cream-brown when fresh. Conidiomata pycnidial, usually single, embedded in the centre of the stroma, 350–400 mm high, 300–350 µm diam. Conidiogenous cells phialidic, cylindrical, up to 20 µm long. Pycnidial paraphyses present, linear, filiform, flexuous, up to 150 µm long, 1.5 µm wide. Conidia fusoid, sometimes narrowly fusiform, with rounded ends, 5–6 x 1.2–1.5 µm.”   In culture the colonies on PDA were slow-growing, attaining a diam. of 4-5 mm after 4 wk at 20oC. Colonies were pale brown; when old, culture turning gray-brown to cocoa brown. Sporulation begins after 4 wk from pycnidia.   This is a rarely reported species in Thailand. Collections from Khao Yai National Park are from the middle of the rainy season through to November with one record in January. Other records are Ton Nga Chang Wildlife Sanctuary in August and Khlong Naka Wildlife Sanctuary in January.
